The first rapid development of coffee culture took place when in the Western Ukraine the tradition of opening pastry shops with aromatic coffee began to spread. By that time coffee-houses were gathering places for political and business leaders, who discussed important issues over a cup of coffee. Interestingly.at that time coffee, according to the Viennese tradition, was served with three glasses of cold water. Subsequently, World War II and the advent of Soviet power led to the destruction of the tradition of coffee shops, because the invaders were more to the liking of various bars. However, it was not the main reason, because the authorities simply wanted to destroy the hearths, where members of the intelligentsia could meet. The tradition of coffee houses in Ukraine began to revive only in the early 60s. Today, coffee making became a true form of art, and attracts the youth to spend time in the coffee shops all over Ukraine.
